Assalammualaikum wbt,
Hanif Aiden just turned 2 years old last month, in December. Alhamdulillah, thank you Allah swt for this gift. However, to make it even more memorable, we celebrated at the hospital. Yeap, you read that right. He was admitted at SJMC a day before his birthday. Such poor boy 😂
Days before, he was having clogged nostrils (which quite common) and we gave him the nasal spray as usual. But during the night, he seemed like having difficulty to breathe and again I thought it was due to his clogged nose. We brought him to the clinic the next morning and doctor gave him nebulizer and asked us to monitor. Should the breathing is unusual, we need to come again for another round of nebulizer. So, I'm off to work (trust me, I died a little inside) and my husband took a leave taking care of him. That evening, we brought him again to the clinic and doctor on duty informed us this is serious that he straightaway issued a referral letter for hospital admission. Apparently, his chest is clogged with phlegm and we might risk him in breathing difficulty while he's sleeping in which we might not realized because we're sleeping dead too and it might lead to death!! Which parents that don't jump off the chair hearing this??!!
Without bringing anything, not even the milk powder inside his bag or bottle in that matter (because we didn't expect this) we went to SJMC. As expected, he is admitted and this time, Alhamdulillah, we managed to get a bed at Paedatric ward. For treatments, at first, he was on drip because he didn't eat anything one whole day..both his hands were attached to a flat board to keep him from taking off that drip. Poor my baby boy he can't move his fingers much :( It such a torture because he can't stay still and the drip limits him from moving. Then, he was nebulized every two hours. I was assigned to sleep with Hanif Aiden on the bed because I am a light sleeper. At first he was reluctant for nebulizer but after undergo repetitious procedures, he kind of get used to it, and behaving well especially when pretty nurses attending to him *rolling eyes* 🙄
His admission this time wasn't as stressful as last time, most probably because he is still active and healthy, despite the chesty cough and heavy breathing. Sometimes I felt it's more like vacation for us LOL. Unlike last time where we were longing and counting hours for the discharge. Plus, his sickness are much worser making us worried sick. For his birthday celebration, that night before my MIL, SILs and nieces came bringing the cake and balloons and on the day itself, my parents, sisters and BIL came bringing cake and balloons too. Of course, as a small kid, he won't remember anything but at least I have a picture as a proof that we tried to celebrate in case he asked in future. Hahaha 😂
I also bought Dominos pizzas (they delivered to the room! Kudos Dominos!) for the nurses and they were so happy, kept thanking my husband and I over and over. It touched me a little thinking how lucky am I to have the access of medical facilities for free, food, water, electricity and shelter and for some people like me for instance thought,
'nahhh..it just pizza, is only costed me RM100 and no big deal'
but for them they're a feast. I striked one or two converstions with the nurses and most of them came from other states, mostly either east coast/north still young but looking for money to be sent home. I asked them why they didn't just work at their hometown? The city living expenses, rental, dining are hell expensive but they all told me, there are no jobs there and if they are any, it pays too little. Being brought up in a town, ermm almost a town lah near to KL, this never occured to me. And yeah, the salary isn't that much let alone the benefits :(
Anyway, after spending like 3 days in the hospital, Hanif Aiden's lungs are finally clear, Alhamdulillah. On the last day, the physioteraphist was assigned to do the steam percussion. The purpose is to 'loosen up' the lungs thus making the pleghm thinner and easy to discharge through his poop or puke. You can actually do it at home and refer on Youtube for how-to.
Alhamdulillah, now he is healthy and happy again. Sometimes, the cough and pleghm come and go occasionally but I hope it's nothing serious like this anymore. To my son, Happy Birthday to you. I am sorry we had to celebrate at the hospital but we promise we'll make it up to you soon.
